Superlatives*

Objective

To transform words, eg changing tenses: ed, ing; negation: un, im, il; making comparatives; er, est, ish; changing verbs to nouns, eg ion, ism, ology: nouns to verbs; ise, ify, en

When we use adjectives, we can make comparisons. We can say: that flower is big, but this one is bigger. By adding 'er' we are comparing. We can also add 'est' to the end of the adjective; this is known as the superlative. Put in the correct superlative, remembering your spelling rules - watch for the tricky ones.

Comparative Adjectives*

 

Objective

To transform words, eg changing tenses: ed, ing; negation: un, im, il; making comparatives; er, est, ish; changing verbs to nouns, eg ion, ism, ology: nouns to verbs; ise, ify, en

 

When we use adjectives, we can make comparisons. We can say: that flower is big, but this one is bigger. By adding 'er' we are comparing. Note that we also use the doubling rule as well, adding another 'g'. Change these adjectives by adding 'er' and remembering other spelling rules as well.

 

  1.     I feel very happy today, but on my birthday I was  
 
  2.     That joke was funny, but I know one which is even  
 
  3.     My house is old, but the one next door is  
 
  4.     This tree is tall, but the one in the field is  
 
  5.     I saw a lovely picture today, but the one I saw last week was

  8.     The room was hot in winter, but in summer it was even  
 
  9.     The questions were hard at first, but then they began to get
